INDIANAPOLIS, IN, March 22, 2007 --- Area residents will once again have the opportunity to tour a landmark home to benefit Wishard Health Services when St. Margaret’s Hospital Guild presents its 46th Annual Decorators’ Show House and Garden Walk, April 28th through May 13th.
Following the grandeur of last year’s event at the Conseco estate, Le Chateau Renaissance in Carmel, the Guild will return to the Meridian Kessler neighborhood to stage an encore transformation at 4201 N. Washington Boulevard. The English Tudor style home was designed by Architect Herbert L Bass and built in 1914. Bass is best known for designing the Allison mansion and the Fletcher Manor Home.
Thirty-eight Indianapolis-area interior designers and landscape architects will renovate and transform this early 20th century home for today’s active lifestyle. Show House visitors will be able to view the latest decorating trends while touring the 5,400 square foot residence. Noteworthy updates will include a brand new kitchen, an indoor pool converted into a formal dining room, the addition of an upstairs laundry room, and extensive remodeling of the bathrooms and green house.
St. Margaret’s Hospital Guild is proud to be celebrating a century of providing charitable contributions to Wishard Health Services. Formed in 1907 to brighten the lives of hospitalized children, the committed volunteer corps has raised over $9 million dollars to support an array of programs. Notable Guild contributions have helped launch the occupational therapy department, a highly acclaimed burn unit, and a mobile mammography van. Most recently, St. Margaret’s donated over $300,000 towards the creation of EMBRACE, a support program for women with cancer.
A portion of the proceeds generated from the 2007 Decorators’ Show House and Garden Walk will spur the creation of a pediatrics endowment at Wishard. Income generated from the Our Kids, Our Community endowment will provide for a centralized medical home, adolescent health/medicine and treatment for victims of physical abuse and neglect who come to Wishard.
“Focusing on the community’s most vulnerable citizens during our centennial year brings St. Margaret’s full circle to our earliest days,” notes Guild president Mary Caito. “We’re pleased to help this worthwhile initiative get underway.” For more information, please visit www.showhouseindy.com.
