2007 Achievement In Medicine Award

The 2007 Achievement in Medicine Award Honoree is Margie Payne, CEO, Midtown Community Mental Health Center and Vice President for Mental Health Operations for Wishard Health Services. Margie began her career in 1985 as a staff nurse in Wishard’s inpatient psychiatric unit and has dedicated her career and her life to helping people living with mental illness. Established in 1969, Midtown Community Mental Health Center is the oldest and largest community mental health center in the state of Indiana. Under Margie’s leadership, Midtown has developed numerous innovative programs such as the Crisis Intervention Team training program and saw the 2002 opening of Indiana’s first Psychiatric Emergency Room which incorporates both emergency medical services and psychiatric services. First and foremost, however, Margie Payne is a nurse who is most concerned with the patient.
